UK Dealer servicing

Hi All

My local dealer offers a Minor service which they suggest every other year, and Major service which they suggest every 24 months.

From what I can tell a Major service includes pollen filter, air filter, spark plugs and a more thorough check as well as the usual oil and filter change.

Surely I only need this at the specified intervals in the manual, the first being 60,000 miles and apart from that should just be minor servicing each year.

Is the dealer ripping me off?

Probably not as far as i'm aware it more or less what you've just said. I got a VW dealer main service and it cost £193 and the same service is £299 in the nearest town, Edinburgh. The other VW dealer siad that my next service, minor at 29k would include a brake fliud change and a Recharge of the air con total of about 360 each.
They did not put longlife oil in this time though?
