List of Boost Gauges

fatty@golfmk6.com

Go Kart Champion
Just wanted to make a list of the current boost gauges that fit the mk6. I'm trying to decide on which boost gauge to get and being able to see all of them together helps. Hope this helps anyone else on the fence about boost gauges!

Option 1 : AWE Tuning boost gauge kit
Pros - matches the back light almost exactly
Cons - (not sure if this is a con or not) mounted only in the driver side vent
Price - around $190 ish
http://www.awe-tuning.com/products/vw-1/mk6-g-j-2010/gti-20t/mk6-2-0t-vent-mounted-boost-gauge-kit.html

Option 2 : P3 Digital boost gauge
Pros - Digital boost readings, sleek design, and it can do more than just read boost (0-60 timing, shift light etc). also there are lots of options to fit everyone (standard, premium, plus)
Cons - (not sure if this is a con or not) mounted only in the driver side vent. Also it will take a big chunk out of your wallet :yikes:
Price - ranges from $364 (standard) to $419 (Premium plus)

there is a youtube video too showing the different features

Option 3 : New South Performance Boost Gauge
Pros - versatile ! it can be installed in the vent or it can be put in a pod to fit on the steering column and you can adjust the color of the lights if needed.
Cons - Wiring is a little difficult. Doesn't match the steering column very much. You would have to buy the pod separately I believe, so that might be a little something extra. According to lowerthanzimmy "it f***ing sucks", and there may be some rubbing issues
Price - around $150

Option 4 : Defi White Racers Boost Gauge
Pros - looks really nice imo it also does this really cool sweep when you turn it on. animation is on the website. Fitted on the steering column as well
Cons - blocks the MFI
Price - around $230

Option 5 : Podi MK6 Boost gauge
Pros - attached to the steering column with a pod, also not as bulky as other column boost gauges. there are 16 LEDs used to uniformly backlight the dial and 4 LEDs used to light up the needle. comes with a remote !
Cons - Just came out so not sure how it will perform. But i'm sure it'll be fine
Price - Presale (til may 16th) $249 (includes boost tap, t shirt, and free shipping) or you can pay $219 ( includes free shipping).

Option 6 : Concepts in Motion
Pros - matches the back ground color of the tachometer very nicely
Cons - this is a vent boost gauge that is installed in the center vents above the headunit rather than the driver side vent
Price - The vent pod package is $170

Option 7 : Omori Boost Gauge
Pros - boost gauge is on the steering column and doesn't block much of the tachometer (probably only the redline). also has a very slim design and does the cool spastic gauge sweep
cons - might be too bright compared to the cluster gauges
Price - $100 for the gauge with sender, an extra $30 for the pod, and if you speak with j spec you can get a $25 discount.
if you need more info on this boost gauge i'm sure burtomr will be glad to answer of your questions

Nice write up! I love that P3 digital boost gauge. Anyone have any experience with it?

Mr.Alex

I Got That 6.
Il add this to the New South, and Il add a Con which is that the new south pod does not match the steering column very much, but the gauge is awesome and it doesn't block anything.

i have the new south one and ill had a con.......it fucking sucks.

-shitty ass universal instuctions (they give you a resistor "if" your gauge blinks"...why the hell dont they just install it!....and when i put mine in the resistor blew anyways

-the column pod is pushed all the way back and it rubs when you turn the wheel....(you cant hear it with the radio on but still its there and i know its there)

-after rigging the wiring for it to work and 3 hours later....i am "satisfied" with it...but if it wasn't for all the hard work my buddy did to help my wire it....i would took it out and sent it back

think hard about what gauge you get...i wish i didn't cheap out for the new south gauge and spent a little more on the AWE gauge

Yea the wiring sucked on it, my friend recommended posi-tap connectors so it only took like 2 min to get it working, so I suggest that.

It's a good starting point but definitely not a comprehensive list. If your goal is only to list the kits, I'd add the CIM kit too.

I've got the AWE gauge and using the Forge tap included with the catch can setup. Installation isn't the easiest but I'm very happy with its performance.

Wow, the CIM looks really good too. But installing it looks like a bitch.

i'll second that.
i have the vent mounted newsouth performance gauge and well you have to instal the 2 resistors provided to match the brightness as well as the capacitor so it doesn't blink.other than that it works and looks good.

It wasnt that hard actually. The most trouble that I had was taking the central vent out. There was one tab that just kept getting in the way as i tried to pull it out! The front facia of the radio was a period of nervousness, but an easy procedure.
