2010 golf 2.5 wont rev past 3k

so i was driving home today, and i accelerated reaching 3k rpm and shifted like normal but it felt a little weird but i just kept driving casually. i came up to a right hand turn at a green light and when i down shifted to 2nd there was an instant loss of power. I thought it wasn't in gear so i wiggled the shift knob and tried again. same results, no check engine light on, nothing. so i pulled off took a good long look around my car, and engine bay. so i thought just drive home and see whats going on. right as i was pulling into my driveway my engine light turned on.


so i looked it up and i guess its just in limp mode? thats what i have seen alot that happens when you cant rev past 3k. and from what i've read it could just be a sensor.

I'm taking it to the dealership tomorrow to see whats going on but hopefully its something minor or that my warranty covers.

any past experiences or anyone that knows what causes this please feel free to share.

I've read a thread almost exactly like this, in the past. It may have been on Vortex. Limp mode jogged my memory, so you might search for that term.

I similar problem happened to my 2010 2.5 a few months back. My car wouldn't go past 3,000 RPM in fourth gear. I had to flatbed it to the dealership. I picked the car up the next day and the dealership said they fixed it...two weeks later guess what happened. So I took the car back again and they fix it again...but this time they replaced the part, they didn't the first time!

took it in today waited in the waiting room for 2 hours and they said they need to keep it over night to do more diagnostics tonight through tomorrow.

yeah like they do diagnostics at night... that just means the only competent tech they have went home.

well they told me this around 3-4pm so their techs were still there until 5.

it turns out the knock sensor malfunctioned and basically just have to replace it. parts come in tomorrow, and they said it will be done around noon.

My 2010 golf 2.5 5mt just did this tonight .... It was fine until I came out of a restaurant and won't rev in any gear past 3000 rpm.

Turned it off and on brew times, jarred the brakes, pulled e brake, and shifted it a bunch of times but it didn't help


Did the knock sensor fix it?
