Engine Build Eye Candy

Engine is finally coming back together with some cool pictures from Pacific German:)

Here are some pictures of the head and valves back from the machine shop with all the carbon build up cleaned off of it:

Pictures of the block with the new forged pistons from JE Engineering and rods from Integrated Engineering which will soon be united with the head and bolted down with ARP head bolts:

And lastly pictures of the Racing Brake BBK. Notice the 2 piece center mount 330 mm rotors with an open slot design where the cross drills are within the slot itself. RB already preloaded the calipers with their inhouse ET900 pads which should be equivalent to the Carbotech XP10 I had before. The donwnside is that it looks like I'll need a 3-5mm spacer to fit my 18x8 ET50 OEM Karthoums on:

As soon as the engine is back in the car, I've got an APR intercooler that will get installed in place of the S3 IC as well as an INA external oil cooler. Hopefully I'll be able to spend this weekend breaking her in gently!!!:D

Now that is an interesting variation on the drilled/slotted rotors. Very cool.

Panda,

Excuse my ignorance but what happened to your motor to necessitate the rebuild? Or, did you just decide "it was time" to build your monster?

track proven to have both the durability of a slotted rotor combined with the cooling effects of cross drills without having stress fractures. This kit uses 4 piston calipers based on the same design as the Subaru STI.

Interestingly on RacingBrake's own forum they've been watching our brake threads on both VW Vortex and Golf MK6 as well as Audi and it looks like they are gauging interest in a kit that uses their centermount rotor with Porsche Cayenne 6 piston calipers... as the centermount rotor will likely allow use of the big calipers with out requiring such an aggressive offset to clear which is required by kits such as ECS or home DIY kits.

I should've taken pictures of the other parts going in when I was at the shop last week, but was late for work... the forged pistons and rods looked like very very light metal sculptures when I held them:)

Panda,

Excuse my ignorance but what happened to your motor to necessitate the rebuild? Or, did you just decide "it was time" to build your monster?

that's ok

A hot track day several months ago caused me to overheat, leading to my head bolts loosening up, causing my head gasket to warp and start leaking boost... Otoh it could also be the increased boost causing the head bolts to loosen, causing the headgasket to warp allowing hot exhaust gases into the engine bay causing overheating and boost loss...

The only symptom I had was a 5lb loss in boost (originally 21 psi but now wouldnt go past 15 psi), no driveability issues, no CEL's, the car was still pretty fast.

Since the engine was coming apart to replace the headgasket I figured to replace the pistons and rods at the same time and upgrade to arp head bolts to be safe... Although after the engine was apart and inspected the cylinders, rods, pistons, and rings where completely fine

Then I wanted to take steps to keep the engine cool such as the external oil cooler from Ina.

The BBK is because I warped one of the calipers at the same event...

It was so hot that event that even my nav unit was warning me the hardrive was overheating... how many people on this forum can claim they overheated their nav system:lol:

......

So, no BT kit, etc. yur just bullet-proofing the engine while your "in-there"...:w00t:

looks like stock valves and what not, i take it you decided not to install the ferrea valves and springs from INtergrated engineering to complete your fully built motor.
keep the pics coming i an curious how your mounting the oil cooler from INA.
