42DD Street Series Downpipe... Props to Ben@P2Spec!

My order was placed a little over a week ago, and it came in last night. Ben hooked it up and I'm impressed with what I got for about $500!

The welds could be a little better, but I have extreme standards.

I'll be installing it this weekend! I'll be posting some sound clips, unlike those other d-bags that promise 'em, but never perform on this forum.

It's actually nice in some areas, but it has its few small flaws and imperfections.

LOL - that's how I do it! . I like the all-inclusive design of the 42DD stuff, so modular you can make anything work. Congrats! Let us know how it goes!

EDIT:
I'll be installing it next week! I decided to fill out a work order and take it to my technical school where I can work on it and where I have any/every tool I can possibly need.

Those welds look pretty damn good to me. An important point i am always interested in. Can the oem O2 sensor rubber fit into the stock clip, or does it not reach, like on the MK5s. I doubt they changed anything.

the welds may be nice but the downpipe is made out of aluminized steel, they usually rust out completely within 1-2years.

you must be living in a vacuum in space, because alumized exhaust tubing rusts like crazy, it basic chemistry. I see in everyday in fact I have a car on one of my lifts with a rusted aluminized steel exhaust. Just because someone doesnt post about it doesnt mean its not rusting. Not everyone constantly inspects a downpipe.

That's not true - it's just that they all became astronauts!

So you are seriously stating that an uncoated aluminized steel exhaust doesn't rust?

Gregg, are you in charge of sales? What is your position at USP?

Just a point of reference regarding 42 DD and their metal build: (source)

Quote:
Q: What is your downpipe made of?
All images and text © 42 Draft Designs 2009, all rights reserved
A: Our piping is 14 gauge 3” aluminized steel. Our flanges are 1018 cold roll steel. Our flex section is 300 series
stainless steel. Our catalytic converter is 400 series stainless steel. Our hardware is cad/zinc plated steel.
Q: So what does all that actually mean? I am concerned about rust.
A: Let’s start with the piping. Aluminized steel is a basic low-carbon steel with a coating of aluminum bonded
to the pipe inside and out. Like any coating, the aluminum protects the steel from the elements, preventing
rust. It holds up to 1600° and will never peel or flake off. The pipe underneath cannot rust until the aluminum
corrodes and the coating is degraded.
Our flanges are cut from 1018 cold roll steel. This material machines fairly easily and is consistent. We machine
to exacting precision to ensure proper fitment on your vehicle. Precision aside, steel rusts. The flanges will get a
coating of rust on them immediately, but are too thick to “fall apart” within the normal lifespan of this system.
Our flex section is made from 300 series stainless steel. The flex section will darken as it’s heated becoming a
dark brown color. This is normal for all stainless steel. The clamping bands on our flex sections are aluminized
steel and will share the same characteristics as our piping.
Our catalytic converter is provided in 409 stainless steel. 409 stainless steel is essentially mild steel with
enough chromium added to slow down the corrosion. It will turn dark brown quickly and will rust slowly over
time.
Our hardware is cad/zinc plated.

it rusts like crazy, they can claim what they want, just ask any exhaust shop what happens to aluminzied steel after a few months. And if you live up north or by the beach its 1000 times worse

If you plan on keeping your car long term please only buy exhaust components that are stainless steel.
