This is the strongest storm to hit that area in 100 years and is expected to have a similar track to Charley.

Please take it seriously. You don't know how many people I spoke with after Katrina who said "I didn't think it was going to be this bad. I've been through hurricanes, but this is bad."
Hence why I said “seriously I’m worried”

Flooding is going to be really bad in much of the state.

Guys, I know we're all super macho here, but please take precautions. If you decide not to evacuate and you're under a mandatory evacuation order, then remember that nobody is coming to get you. You are on your own for probably a week.

Even though Florida claims they have 30k power crews on standby (seriously), you'll lose power and, most probably, water, so charge up everything you've got, get flashlights and batteries ready and fill up a bathtub for flushing toilets. I trust you have a couple of weeks' worth of water and enough canned food to tide you over.

During Katrina, people who didn't evacuate were told to write their name and SSN on their arms so that the bodies would be easier to identify.

This isn't a Katrina, and it isn't LA. Florida knows hurricanes, but now it is going to an area with lots of "new Floridians" and hitting an area that floods easier.

Hurricane track keeps moving eastward, which means hitting land sooner and stronger. Now forecasted to possibly cross the state and then hit GA/SC. Errrbody watch out for Ian.

We had no power for about 9 days after Irma. That was one I was actually pretty nervous about. I don't have those same feelings for this one yet, but I guess that'll depend on whether or not this thing stays north of us.

I got my 20k mah power bank charging up and my cell phones charging now too. My computers on a backup so I'll have a little bit of battery there. We got a generator that plugs directly into the house, so we can get the AC back on and watch some TV if there's service. We have plenty of propane and power to the stove with the generator. Got plenty of food and water and beer. The windows are all shuttered up. The boat's secured. None of the neighbors seem to be going anywhere either. We've got a couple guests coming over so they can escape the beach, since they'll definitely be seeing some surge where they're at. They're bringing a bunch of food with them. We got a shit ton of batterys and lanterns/lights. We're pretty well prepared for it.

We have the surge to worry about, but once we're passed that flooding isn't something that'll become an issue for us. There will definitely be parts of town that will have some flooding that will remain after the storm is gone, but that won't be here.
